In a bid to increase its revenue and market share, HTC has said it will cut back on output in 2012, focusing on quality not quantity by limiting the amount of devices available to buy. In 2011 the Taiwanese manufacturer released a wide range of devices, however its profitability fell from $494m to $365m in the last quarter.
In an interview with Mobile Magazine, HTC UK Chief Phil Roberson said: “We have to get back to focusing on what made us great – amazing hardware and a great customer experience. We ended 2011 with far more products than we started out with. We tried to do too much.”

“So 2012 is about giving our customers something special. We need to make sure we do not go so far down the line that we segment our products by launching lots of different SKUs,” he added.
In order to compete with Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy series, HTC will instead focus on its high-end Hero handsets. However the company will not push its tablet computer business as strongly this year, although its footprint in the market will still remain.
