While everyone waits patiently for Apple to announce when its next-generation iPhone will be released, rumours now suggest that a lower-priced version of its current handset is being made. Asian suppliers have indicated that Apple has begun to manufacture an 8GB iPhone 4 for consumers who won’t be able to afford the company’s brand new upcoming device.
Although Apple's current 16GB and 32GB flash drives are made by Japan's Toshiba and South Korea's Samsung Electronics, speculation suggests that an 8GB alternative is being made by a Korean company. However, Apple, Samsung and the anonymous sources decline to comment due to high levels of secrecy and security.

Various reasons could be given for the introduction of this lower priced, lower memory device apart from being a cheaper iPhone 5 alternative. Apple could be looking to boost sales in emerging markets as the popularity of mobile phones continues to rise. It could also replace the current iPhone 3GS which Apple continues to sell alongside the iPhone 4.
The next-generation iPhone is expected to arrive at the end of September with manufacturers reportedly being told to prepare for up to 45 million units altogether.
