A 43-year-old plasterer from Southend, Essex has designed a wristband to help husbands keep track of when their wives are suffering from PMT.

The device, which is still in its design stage, works by monitoring subtle changes in a woman's body temperature during her monthly cycle.

The PMT band has an inbuilt thermometer that responds to these variations in temperature by changing colour.

“It's a visual aid for men so they can be a little bit more understanding at certain times of the month,” said inventor, Karl Dorn.

“It's a very taboo issue - I was a bit concerned about putting it forward - but if you can help couples understand each other and communicate better that's got to be a good thing.”

The gadget has reached the final stage of a competition in the UK run by theme park entrepreneur, Phillip Miller, who is offering 100,000 pounds for money-spinning inventions.

The wristband is one of 160 inventions that took part in the competition and is up against a GPS toddler tracking monitor and an above-ground eco-friendly burial system in the final.
