Data released on today by the Economic Development Board (EDB) showed that Singapore’s industrial production increased by 26.1 percent on-year in June.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 24.8 percent.
On a three-month moving average basis, manufacturing output increased 44.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
For the entire first half of 2010, manufacturing output expanded 41.6 percent.
However, manufacturing output decreased 23.4 percent in June 2010 on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output declined 1.8 percent, EDB said.
Electronics Performs Well
The electronics cluster enjoyed a good month. EDB said that output of the electronics cluster increased 46.8 percent in June on a year-on-year basis.
“All clusters recorded higher output except the data storage segment,” EDB said in a release. “The semiconductors segment continued to record robust growth of 74.9 percent in June, bolstered by strong demand for cell phones, personal computers and consumer electronics products.”
However, the data storage segment declined 9.4 percent due to the ongoing relocation of production overseas that was announced previously.
On a year-to-date basis, electronics output was 60.6 percent higher than that recorded for the same period last year.
Deceleration in Biomedical Manufacturing
The sharpest deceleration in growth was in the biomedical manufacturing segment, which rose by 29.8 percent on-year in June, as opposed to the 117.7 percent on-year growth in May.
The chemicals cluster increased 7.4 percent on-year in June, again down from the 19.7 percent growth seen in the previous month.
The transport engineering cluster contracted by 3.6 percent in June.
