Many go to central Europe, namely Germany and Austria, while this particular milestone engine will be moved south to Oxford, where the BMW X1, 1 Series, 3 Series and MINI petrol models are manufactured.
In this special case, the engine will be installed in a MINI soon to be sent to the Indian market, epitomising the global network synonymous with BMW.

This milestone comes following a successful period of business at Hams Hall which saw record levels of production in 2011, and also resembles a general trend of manufacturing in the UK which saw eight out of 10 minis made there, exported to foreign lands. Overall, since 2001, 1.6 million MINI cars have been made in the UK before going overseas to foreign markets.
The achievements over the past year, and especially in reaching the impressive three-million figure has earned the plant praise from as high up as the British Government.
Business Minister, Mark Prisk declared: “BMW's three millionth engine in a MINI that's now exported to 100 countries is emblematic of the current success of the UK auto sector.Last year UK automotive exports were up 15 percent at an all-time high of £29.5 billion in cash terms and engine production increased nearly five percent to 2.5 million units."
Hams Hall Plant Director, Nick Spencer couldn’t hide his pride at being associated with the landmark occasion: "Our 800-strong workforce is proud to be playing an important role within BMW Group's global production network, building engines in the UK for cars sold in many countries around world and contributing to the success of the iconic MINI brand."
