Handheld and mobile devices keep getting smaller, lighter and thinner. However, the individual components which make up these smartphones, tablets and laptops still need to be capable of delivering high performance. Hoping to set the standard once again, Samsung's latest solid state drive (SSD) has entered volume production.

The new PM830 SSD supports the Serial ATA revision 3.0 interface with data transmissions of 6 gigabits (GB) per second and is available with densities up to 512GB.

Wanhoon Hong, Executive Vice President of Memory Sales and Marketing, Device Solutions at Samsung Electronics said: “Samsung's new line up of advanced SSDs will raise the performance bar to the next level for ultra slim notebooks and tablets and accelerate growth of the market for high performance SSDs.”

The new drives will replace Samsung’s SATA Gb/s-based SSDs by the end of this year and are expected to feature in a range of the South Korean based manufacturers future devices.

“The industry is expected to quickly embrace SATA 6Gb/s-based SSDs, which also will help increase market interest in 256GB and higher densities significantly,” added Hong.
