Czech Republic-based automaker Skoda has entered the electric vehicle market with a revised version of its popular Octavia model. Limited production of the Skoda Octavia E Line, first unveiled at last year’s Paris Motor Show, has commenced, however only 10 models will initially be made.

The Skoda Octavia's floorplan makes it ideal for battery arrangement, control units and an electrical motor. The powertrain provides constant power of 60kW but has a maximum output of 85kW.

In terms of performance, the vehicle goes from 0-62mph in 12 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 84mph. Total range of the 180 lithium-ion cell battery is 93 miles. The Skoda Octavia E Line even features a sound generator to simulate the noise of a petrol engine.

“Emission-free mobility is one of our key goals for the future, and my opinion is that electric vehicles are the right answer to the increasingly stringent emission limits and the need to develop the automotive industry sustainably,” said Skoda Auto Technological Development Board Director Eckhard Scholz.

“Our strength lies in a combination of our highly competent and qualified technological development staff and the Volkswagen Group's extensive know-how, and I believe that it is exactly this combination that will enable us to develop an electric vehicle to be seen as a real step forward.”
