UK manufacturing output jumped 1.7 percent in September

UK factory output rose at its fastest rate in seven years in September, boosting hopes of economic recovery, the ONS has said

Manufacturing production rose by 1.7 percent in September, following a 2 percent drop in August, the Office for National Statistics has said today.

The strongest increases in output were 8 percent in the electrical and optical equipment industries, 3 percent in transport equipment and 4.2 percent in other manufacturing.

10 of 13 manufacturing sub-sectors boosted production in September.

Overall industrial output advanced by 1.6 percent – also the biggest increase since July 2002.
