Not many companies can boast that its products can be found everywhere from the urban jungles of New York City and Paris to real jungles in South Africa. However, with offices and distribution centers worldwide, Mobile Climate Control can boast of products that are found practically everywhere.
According to its website, the Swedish based company specializes in the installation as well as manufacturing and design of heating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) for all types of vehicles. This includes Off Road and Heavy Duty Specialty Vehicles and city, intercity, shuttle, school and touring buses. Specialty vehicles include ambulances, fire trucks and military vehicles.
Located in Vaughan, Ontario, the Canadian office is run by Tomas Kjerulf and employs nearly 500 people while bringing in a revenue of CAN$150 million. The head office is in Stockholm, Sweden and there are offices in the US, Germany and Poland.
The company website boasts of its years and years of experience crediting it to its pleasant HVAC systems. “With our team of engineers that has a century of experience at designing systems, we create a pleasant environment not only for operators, but also for passengers,” it says on the company website.
Company History
The company evolved from a previous company that began in 1975. That company named Klimatsystems AB emanated from Rimbo, Sweden and was later sold in 1982.
After selling that company, the owners moved to Toronto and began Mobile Climate Control (MCC). According to the website, “The successful blueprint of an engineering company pushed it into the forefront as an industry leader in designing and manufacturing custom climate comfort systems.”
The website says that in 1997, the excellent revenues of MCC and market conditions required MCC to repurchase Klimatsystems AB. It was thereafter rebranded MCC Europe AB and relocated to Norrtealje, Sweden. Around this time MCC not only grew in a locale sense, but it also grew in the products that it made as it delved into the Mass Transit Market. The latest acquisition came in 2004 when MCC purchased UWE Verken AB, Norrkoeping, Sweden.
Customized Products
Since MCC offers products to three different types of vehicles, it offers a wide variety of products everything from heaters to plumbing and piping. Of course since they are a HVAC company its main and foremost product is of course an HVAC system. The HVAC systems made by MCC are customized for the customer’s desires.
According to the company website, “These custom designed defroster/ heating/ air conditioning units are for all types of vehicles and are made to meet your standards as well as those set forth by SAE and FMVSS. Our goal is to provide a custom designed powerful HVAC system in a compact design. Contact Mobile Climate Control to discuss what options would work best in your application.”
MCC offers evaporators as well. These evaporators come in different shapes, sizes and models. The website says that when there is a requirement for evaporators to be either built in or free standing, there are many models to choose from to suit the specific needs of a customer’s vehicle. Often the evaporators include heater coil, blower and associated controls.
In addition to the HVAC parts, MCC offers configuration systems for the Bus and Mass Transit market. “These custom designed air conditioning units are for all types of buses. Our goal is to provide a custom designed powerful HVAC system in a compact design” it says on the website.
There are a number of other products involved in HVAC that MCC offers its customers for on and off road vehicles, specialty vehicles and bus and mass transit systems. These products are the following: condensers, heaters, electronics and controls, refrigerant lines, components such as blowers and compressors, ramp system, plumbing and piping and finally regulation equipment.
Research and Development
In addition to the several products, MCC offers, the company also has a research and development facility. This state of the art climate chamber tests all the products for reliability and climate change. The climate chamber, instrumentation and data acquisition and defrosting validation are highly complex systems.
“The acquisition unit and controls are captured by a single mainframe system comprised of multiple modules for measurements and controls. The software for the Calorimeter is an in-house development and can be customized for specific testing requirements. MCC allocates six percent of worldwide sales for Research and Development on a yearly basis, to continue as a renowned leading edge innovator,” explains the website ¬
