Eisai Co. Ltd has opened a new 100 million pound pharmaceuticals manufacturing and research facility in Hatfield, UK, creating 250 research jobs.
By Ian Armitage
The new 100 million pound facility, labelled the “European Knowledge Centre” by Eisai, will be the firm’s new European strategic base and is made up of a manufacturing plant, research laboratory, office building and shared facilities.
It will employ more than 500 staff, half of whom will work in newly created positions.
RELOCATION
Eisai’s European regional headquarters, manufacturing subsidiary and UK clinical research and sales subsidiary have all relocated to the site, while a new discovery research function has been added to “extend and strengthen” the capabilities of the company’s discovery research subsidiary located at the University College London.
Eisai has traditionally relied on business alliance partner companies for product production but it is now able to manufacture its own products in Europe.
The facility will eventually manufacture drug formulations.
