The Opel saga has taken another twist.

A few hours after revealing it is no longer selling its European business to Magna, it now seems as if GM is to cut around 20 percent of its workforce.

AFP says the U.S. auto giant plans to "cut around 10,000 jobs" at its European division Opel, according to GM Vice President John Smith.

As reported on Manufacturing Digital, GM earlier announced that it would retain control of Opel/Vauxhall, a move that has shocked many in the automotive industry.

That decision clearly shows that Opel and Vauxhall have an important role in GM’s global strategy, a role that the firm is eager to maintain.
